01 — Overview

The Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector manufactured by Pioneer Industries is a high-pressure piping transition adapter engineered for severe-duty automotive, mobile fluid power, and chemical instrumentation systems. Featuring an internal 42°/45° female inverted flare conical seat with straight Unified National Fine (UNF) internal threads on one port, and a tapered female National Pipe Taper (NPT) port on the opposing side, this connector permits direct attachment of male pipe-threaded components (such as pressure sensors, diagnostic ports, and auxiliary shutoff valves) to rigid double-flared tubing lines.

Manufactured strictly to SAE J512 and SAE J1231 standards, our female connectors are precision CNC-machined from extruded high-tensile brass bar stock (BS 249 / CW614N / ASTM B16 C36000) or hot-forged brass blanks (BS 218 / CW617N). The heavy hexagonal body provides generous wrenching flats that facilitate secure counter-holding and torque transmission, preventing fitting distortion or thread galling during rigorous field assembly.

Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector Supplier

Pioneer Industries’ Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector solves critical piping challenges when connecting inverted flared instrument lines to male pipe manifolds, pressure transmitters, refrigeration solenoid valves, and tank discharge ports. The precision-turned 42°/45° internal cone creates an impenetrable metal-to-metal wedge seal with the tube flare when drawn down by a male-threaded inverted flare nut, effectively resisting vibration loosening and thermal fatigue.

On the female pipe port, deep cut NPT threads engineered to ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 standards feature uniform taper geometry, allowing maximum thread engagement and mechanical anchoring. The dense, micro-grain brass microstructure withstands high burst pressures up to 2,800 PSI while resisting internal cavitation and atmospheric dezincification.

Features & Technical Specifications:

  • Recessed 42°/45° Internal Seat: Micro-inch surface finish on the internal cone eliminates micro-voids, ensuring bubble-tight sealing on high-pressure brake and fuel lines.
  • Heavy Industrial Hex Body: Generous hexagonal wrench flats allow effortless tightening with standard industrial wrenches without rounding corners or galling.
  • Dual Thread Metallurgy: Seamlessly couples fine-pitch straight UNF female inverted flare threads with robust ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 tapered female NPT pipe threads.
  • Zero Solder Requirement: Eliminates open-flame brazing or silver soldering in volatile hydrocarbon, fuel gas, or explosive chemical plant environments.
  • Wide Thermal Compatibility: Performs reliably across continuous operating temperature limits from -54°C to +121°C (-65°F to +250°F).

Frequently Asked Questions – Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector

Expert engineering insights and technical guidance regarding design specifications, pressure tolerances, internal inverted cone sealing mechanics, double flaring, and installation best practices for industrial Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector.

A Brass Inverted Flare Female Connector is a precision straight adapter that features an internal female 42°/45° inverted flare seat with straight female UNF threads on one port, and a tapered female NPT pipe thread on the other. It is primarily used to connect double-flared metal tubing to male pipe-threaded components, such as sensors, switches, regulators, and valve outlets.

The two ends seal using entirely different engineering mechanisms. The inverted flare port seals purely mechanically: a male-threaded inverted flare nut drives the double-flared tube against the internal brass cone seat, creating a metal-to-metal wedge seal with zero sealant. The female NPT port seals via tapered thread interference along the thread flanks, requiring an approved anaerobic PTFE paste or fuel-rated thread tape.

A 45-degree SAE double flare is strongly recommended and mandatory for automotive hydraulic brake circuits and high-pressure steel lines. The double-fold reinforces the sealing lip against burst pressures up to 2,800 PSI and prevents flare lip thinning or cracking during torque makeup.

Yes. The inverted flare mechanical joint does not crimp or distort the fitting body, allowing repeated disassembly and reconnection during maintenance without sacrificing pressure integrity. The female NPT end can also be disconnected, though fresh thread sealant must be applied upon reassembly.

Working pressures range from 2,000 PSI (138 bar) for 3/8" tube sizes up to 2,800 PSI (193 bar) for 1/8", 3/16", and 1/4" tube sizes. Burst pressure exceeds four times the rated working pressure (4:1 design factor) under ASME B31.3.

We manufacture these connectors from premium BS 249 / CW614N (ASTM B16 C36000) extruded bar stock or BS 218 / CW617N (ASTM B283 C37700) hot-forged brass blanks, delivering high tensile strength (400 to 440 MPa) and superior resistance to corrosion.

Yes. Because our connectors rely strictly on metal-to-metal sealing without synthetic elastomers, they are completely immune to degradation from DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1 brake fluids, as well as gasoline, diesel, and E10/E85 ethanol fuel blends.

Recommended assembly torque: 10–13 ft-lbs (14–18 N-m) for 3/16" tube (3/8-24 thread); 12–15 ft-lbs (16–20 N-m) for 1/4" tube (7/16-24 thread); and 17–20 ft-lbs (23–27 N-m) for 5/16" tube (1/2-20 thread). Always counter-hold the connector hex with a backup wrench.

No. The straight UNF threads on the inverted flare side serve solely to develop mechanical clamping force. Sealing occurs entirely on the 42°/45° internal cone. Tape or liquid sealant inside the inverted flare cavity can prevent proper seating and cause leaks.

Every shipment from Pioneer Industries includes EN 10204 Type 3.1 Material Test Certificates verifying raw material chemical composition, tensile properties, and 100% pneumatic bubble leak testing under water.
