01 — Overview

The Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow manufactured by Pioneer Industries is an essential 90-degree directional transition adapter engineered for high-pressure fluid, fuel, and hydraulic braking systems. Featuring an internal female 42°/45° inverted flare cone seat with straight Unified National Fine (UNF) internal threads on one port and a tapered male National Pipe Taper (NPT or NPTF dryseal) on the perpendicular 90-degree port, this elbow allows piping designers to route rigid metal tubing directly into female equipment ports with zero tube kinking.

Manufactured to SAE J512, SAE J1231, and ASME B16.26 standards, each elbow is hot-forged from BS 218 / CW617N forging brass alloy. The hot forging process produces a continuous, dense crystalline grain structure around the 90° curve, delivering superior burst strength, high shock absorption, and immunity to porosity under demanding cyclic operating conditions.

02 — Product Detail

Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow Supplier

In tight vehicle chassis enclosures, wheel well clearances, and crowded engine bays, straight tube runs into master cylinders, brake calipers, fuel pumps, and transmission coolers are frequently impossible. Pioneer Industries’ Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow provides a rigid, ultra-compact 90-degree solution that threads directly into the female port and presents an aligned female inverted flare seat for tubing connection.

The heavy forged brass body incorporates wide wrench pads at the corner, allowing technicians to apply proper counter-torque during inverted flare nut tightening without stressing the pipe thread joint. The 100% metal-to-metal flare seal operates reliably across extreme temperatures from -54°C to +121°C without synthetic gaskets or O-rings.

Features & Technical Specifications:

  • Contoured Hot-Forged Body: Continuous grain flow along the 90° bend imparts superior structural integrity and high burst safety factors.
  • Smooth Internal Flow Radius: Engineered internal bend reduces flow resistance, turbulence, and pressure drop in hydraulic fluid lines.
  • Recessed 42°/45° Internal Seat: Micro-finished internal seat guarantees bubble-tight metal-to-metal sealing against double-flared metal tubing.
  • Integrated Wrench Pads: Forged hex wrenching pads provide positive wrench purchase for proper orientation and counter-holding.
  • Extreme Temperature Range: Performs reliably across -54°C to +121°C (-65°F to +250°F) without thermal degradation or embrittlement.

Frequently Asked Questions – Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow

Expert engineering insights and technical guidance regarding design specifications, pressure tolerances, internal inverted cone sealing mechanics, double flaring, and installation best practices for industrial Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow.

A Brass Inverted Flare Male Elbow is a 90-degree forged brass adapter with an internal female 42°/45° inverted flare seat on one port and a male NPT pipe thread on the perpendicular port. It allows technicians to connect double-flared tubing to a female-threaded port at a right angle, saving space and preventing tube kinking in automotive brake, fuel, and transmission circuits.

The 90° male elbow changes fluid direction by a full right angle (90 degrees), making it ideal for perpendicular port entries into brake calipers and pumps. A 45° male elbow changes fluid direction by 45 degrees, which is preferred for gentler sweep angles, lower pressure drop, and diagonal firewall routing.

Hot forging aligns the metallic grain flow continuously around the 90° elbow curve. This delivers vastly superior tensile and burst strength compared to elbows machined from extruded bar, and eliminates microscopic porosity that could allow high-pressure brake fluid or volatile fuel to weep over time.

Thread the male NPT end into the female port finger-tight, then tighten with a wrench 2 to 3 full turns until the inverted flare port faces the exact direction needed for the incoming tubing. Never loosen the elbow to achieve alignment, as this can break the pipe thread seal.

Use an approved anaerobic PTFE paste sealant or fuel-certified PTFE tape on the male NPT threads only. Do not put sealant inside the female inverted flare port or on the inverted nut threads, as the flare joint seals metal-to-metal.

Depending on tube size, working pressure ratings range from 2,000 PSI (138 bar) for 3/8" tubing to 2,800 PSI (193 bar) for 3/16" and 1/4" tubing, backed by an engineered 4:1 minimum safety burst factor.

Double flaring folds the tube wall over on itself before forming the 45-degree cone, doubling the material thickness at the sealing radius. This is mandatory for rigid steel and copper-nickel hydraulic brake lines operating at 1,500 to 2,800 PSI, as single flaring on steel is prone to edge splits or wall thinning during wrench torquing.

Always place an open-end wrench on the forged wrench flat of the elbow to hold it rigid while using a second wrench (such as a flare nut line wrench) to tighten the male nut. This prevents accidental over-tightening or loosening of the pipe thread connection.

Our elbows are hot-forged from BS 218 / CW617N (ASTM B283 C37700) forging brass alloy, delivering ultimate tensile strength above 440 MPa and exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Every export consignment is accompanied by EN 10204 Type 3.1 inspection certificates documenting chemical analysis, mechanical properties, and 100% pneumatic bubble leak testing under water.
