Brass Flare Fittings Supplier

Flare fittings are a type of compression fitting used with metal tubing. Tube flaring is considered to be a type of forging operation, and is usually a cold working procedure. During assembly, a flare nut is used to secure the flared tubing’s tapered end to the tapered fitting, producing a pressure-resistant, leak-tight seal. Flared connections are often used in mission-critical and inaccessible locations as they offer a high degree of long-term reliability. Flare fittings consist of a body with a flared or coned end. Special flaring tools are used to install the tube to fit inside the flared end, providing a deep seal. Flare fittings can handle higher pressures and a wider range of operating parameters than standard compression fittings.

From that point, apply a one-sixth turn. Please note, do not over-torque as this may damage the fitting or split the tubing at the flare.

We at Pioneer Industries manufacture a wide variety of Brass Flare Fittings which find applications in numerous industries like Oil & Gas Industries, Chemical Industry, Nuclear Energy Sector, Petroleum Industries, Defence Industry, and Aerospace Industry. Available in numerous dimensions and grades. Pioneer Industries manufactures and exports high-quality industrial Brass Flare Fittings.

06 — FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Brass Flare Fittings

Answers to the questions mechanical engineers, HVAC contractors, and industrial procurement specialists most often ask before sourcing Brass Flare Fittings from Pioneer Industries.

A 45° Brass Flare Fitting is a heavy-duty mechanical tube connection engineered per SAE J512 and SAE J513 standards. Sealing is achieved by expanding the end of a seamless copper, brass, or aluminum tube to a precision 45-degree conical flare using a flaring tool. When the flare nut is tightened over the tube onto the male fitting body, the inner surface of the flared tube is clamped tightly between the external 45° nose of the fitting body and the internal 45° seat of the flare nut. This generates a high-compression, metal-to-metal seal capable of withstanding severe thermal shock, hydraulic pulsation, and high pressure without relying on elastomeric O-rings or chemical thread sealants.
Our Brass Flare Fittings are manufactured in strict compliance with SAE J512 (Automotive Tube Fittings), SAE J513 (Refrigeration Tube Fittings), ASME/ANSI B16.26 (Cast Copper Alloy Fittings for Flared Copper Tubes), and military MIL-F-18866 specifications. Connection threads on the flare ends utilize standard straight Unified National Fine (UNF / UNS) threads class 2A/2B, while pipe adapter ends feature standard NPT (ASME B1.20.1), BSPT (ISO 7/1), or BSPP (ISO 228/1) threads.
Operating pressure ratings depend upon the tube outer diameter (OD) and wall thickness. In fractional sizes from 1/8″ to 3/8″ OD, our brass flare fittings safely accommodate operating pressures up to 5,000 PSI (approx. 345 bar). For sizes 1/2″ to 3/4″ OD, pressure ratings range from 1,500 to 3,000 PSI (approx. 100 to 200 bar). All Pioneer Industries flare fittings are designed with a minimum certified 4:1 safety factor against bursting under ASME B31.3 process piping codes.
A single flare expands the tube end outward in a single conical lip, which is standard for soft copper refrigeration lines (sizes 3/8″ and larger) and general fuel delivery lines. A double flare folds the tube wall back inside itself before forming the 45° cone, creating a reinforced dual-thickness flare wall. Double flaring is mandatory for smaller copper tubing (under 3/8″ OD), thin-walled tubing, welded steel lines, and any high-vibration automotive or hydraulic applications to prevent flare lip thinning, cracking during torque make-up, and fatigue failure.
Pioneer Industries' Brass Flare Fittings are designed for use with soft annealed copper tubing (ASTM B88 Type K or L, ASTM B280 refrigeration service), seamless brass tubing, fully annealed aluminum tubing, and bendable thin-wall hydraulic steel tubing capable of taking a 45° flare without splitting. Hard-drawn tubing must be properly annealed prior to flaring to ensure grain structure pliability.
HVAC and refrigeration systems utilizing high-pressure modern refrigerants (such as R-410A, R-32, R-134a, and R-404A) experience extreme thermal cycling between -54°C and +121°C (-65°F to +250°F). Elastomeric seals degrade over time in the presence of synthetic POE oils and refrigerants. The pure metal-to-metal seal of a 45° brass flare joint maintains zero permeation, prevents refrigerant venting, eliminates open flame fire hazards associated with brazing in combustible environments, and provides full NFPA 54 / ANSI Z223.1 compliance for LP gas, propane, and natural gas piping.
Standard 45° brass flare fittings utilize a male nose cone on the fitting body and an externally threaded body with a female-threaded flare nut. Inverted flare fittings reverse this geometry: the fitting body has an internal female seat cavity, while the male flare nut threads into the body, enclosing the flare for superior vibration and compact automotive brake packaging. In contrast, compression fittings require no flaring tool at all, relying instead on an internal brass olive (ferrule) to bite into the tube wall, making compression faster to install but rated for lower dynamic fatigue resistance than flare joints.
To assemble: (1) Cut tubing square and deburr internal and external edges; (2) Slide the flare nut onto the tube before flaring; (3) Form a concentric 45° flare using an eccentric cone flaring tool; (4) Inspect the flare face for scoring or uneven lips; (5) Apply a drop of refrigeration or system-compatible oil to the male flare face and nut threads to minimize friction galling; (6) Thread the nut finger-tight; (7) Using a calibrated torque wrench or open-end wrench, tighten to recommended SAE torque values (typically 1/6 turn or 60° past finger-tight). Never over-torque, as excessive force thins the copper flare face and causes micro-cracking.
Yes, brass flare connections are designed for repeated disassembly and reconnection. Because the seal is mechanical and does not deform the fitting body, the joint can be loosened for maintenance and retightened without sacrificing pressure integrity. However, each time the joint is disassembled, the copper flare face must be visually inspected. If galling, thinning, or burrs are observed on the tube flare, cut off the old flare and form a fresh flare on the tube end.
Every production lot manufactured at Pioneer Industries undergoes stringent QA/QC protocol: 100% thread verification with optical comparators and hardened plug/ring gauges, helium mass spectrometer leak testing, pneumatic bubble immersion at 10 bar, and hydrostatic pressure proof testing. Dispatches are accompanied by EN 10204 Type 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTCs) documenting raw material chemical composition (ASTM B16 C36000 / CW614N / IS 319 Gr. 1), tensile strength, hardness, and full batch traceability.
