Description of 3 Port Poppet Solenoid Valve

A 3 Port Poppet Solenoid Valve is a 3-way directional valve designed for rapid pressurization and venting of pneumatic chambers. The three ports consist of Port 1 (Pressure Inlet), Port 2 (Cylinder / Work Outlet), and Port 3 (Exhaust / Vent). Actuation is achieved via an integrated pilot solenoid that directs line pressure to move the poppet stem.

Because the flat poppet seals compress directly onto the valve seats rather than sliding across ports, the valve experiences zero seal wear from particulate abrasion. This makes poppet valves inherently self-cleaning and immune to spool varnish or sticking, even after long periods of inactivity. They are available in Normally Closed (NC) and Normally Open (NO) configurations.

A 3-Port Poppet Solenoid Valve is a 3/2-way pneumatic directional valve where shifting is accomplished by lifting or seating resilient elastomeric discs directly against perpendicular metal seats. It features three ports: Inlet, Cylinder Outlet, and Exhaust.
Poppet valves offer significant advantages: zero sliding friction (preventing seal wear), high tolerance to contaminated or non-lubricated air, zero crossover leakage during shifting, instantaneous response times, and self-cleaning seats that blow away dust and scale.
In a spool valve, dirt particles can become wedged between the sliding spool and sleeve, causing sticking or scratching the seals. In a poppet valve, the discs seat flat against the orifice with high mechanical force, crushing through or blowing away contaminants with zero sliding abrasion.

Standard ports are 1/4″ and 1/2″ in BSP and NPT threads. The 1/4″ valve delivers Kv 1.10 m³/h (Cv 1.25), while the 1/2″ high-flow model delivers Kv 2.80 m³/h (Cv 3.20), accommodating large pneumatic cylinders.
Crossover leakage is the momentary loss of air between the supply port and exhaust port while the internal valve mechanism is transitioning between states. Poppet valves are engineered with optimized seat spacing and rapid transfer, virtually eliminating crossover leakage and saving compressed air energy.
Standard internally piloted poppet valves operate across 2.0 to 10 kg/cm² (30 to 145 PSI). For applications requiring operation down to 0 bar or vacuum, external pilot supply models are available upon request.
Pioneer manufactures dedicated NC and NO models. On select universal poppet models, simply inverting the end-cap or swapping the inlet and exhaust connections converts the valve between Normally Closed and Normally Open operation.
Coils are rated for continuous 100% ED duty in 12VDC, 24VDC, 110VAC, and 230VAC (50/60Hz). Encapsulated in epoxy with IP65 environmental protection, they include DIN 43650 Form A/B connectors. Flameproof ATEX/PESO options are also available.
