When the solenoid coil is energized, compressed air is routed to Port 2 to drive the cylinder forward while Port 4 exhausts through Port 3. This fail-safe spring action guarantees predictable machine resetting during emergency stops or power loss.

A 4 Way Single Solenoid Valve (commonly configured in 4/2-way or 5/2-way flow paths) has five functional connections in a standard spool body: Port 1 (Main Air Supply), Port 2 and Port 4 (Cylinder Work Ports), and Port 3 / Port 5 (Exhaust Ports). The valve is shifted by a single solenoid operator on one end, opposing a precision mechanical spring on the other end.
In the de-energized normal state, supply pressure is directed to Port 4 (retracting the cylinder) while Port 2 exhausts through Port 3. When the coil is energized, the spool shifts, directing supply pressure to Port 2 (extending the cylinder) while Port 4 exhausts through Port 5. This dual-exhaust arrangement allows independent speed controllers (flow control mufflers) to be installed on both stroke directions.
