Pioneer Industries manufactures precision Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules engineered for high-integrity instrumentation tubing systems, delivering superior radial gripping power, vibration damping, and leak-tight swaging across hydraulic and pneumatic lines up to 5,000 PSI.
The Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrule manufactured by Pioneer Industries is a critical driving and locking element engineered specifically for twin-ferrule instrumentation tube fittings. Installed behind the front ferrule inside the compression nut, it performs a dual kinematic function upon wrench tightening: its forward nose drives the front ferrule axially into the fitting body's 20-degree camming taper to establish the primary leak-tight seal, while its rear crown hinges radially inward to create a secure 360-degree collet grip on the tubing outer diameter.
This precision-engineered colleting action dampens mechanical, hydraulic, and acoustic vibration cycles that would otherwise loosen conventional single-ferrule fittings. Because the back ferrule acts as an internal axial thrust bearing, rotational torque from the nut is absorbed through its burnished contact face, preventing hazardous tube twisting or wall distortion during field assembly.
Pioneer Industries manufactures and exports Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules to process automation builders, instrumentation contractors, naval shipyards, and oil and gas OEMs across more than 85 countries worldwide. Operating from our state-of-the-art facility in Mumbai, India, we maintain substantial inventory across all standard metric sizes (2mm to 25mm) and fractional imperial sizes (1/16″ to 1″) for immediate international dispatch.

Manufactured from precision-machined extruded brass (IS 319 / CW614N / ASTM B16) and finished with micro-smooth surface tolerances, the Pioneer Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrule ensures zero-leakage performance in high-pressure instrumentation, hydraulic impulse, and pneumatic control lines.
The fitting operates through a proven two-ferrule geometry. As the nut is tightened 1-1/4 turns from finger-tight, the back ferrule translates rotational wrench motion into pure axial thrust, advancing the front ferrule into the body taper while hinging inward to grip the tube. This collet grip absorbs vibration shocks and prevents tube pull-out even when working pressures reach up to 5,000 PSI (345 Bar).
Pioneer Industries manufactures Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules in metric tube sizes from 2 mm to 25 mm OD (MPBF Series) and fractional sizes from 1/16" to 1" OD (IPBF Series). Rated for working pressures up to 5,000 PSI with 4:1 safety factor under ASME B31.3 and ISO 19879 standards.

A Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrule is a precision-machined mechanical clamping and driving ring positioned directly behind the front ferrule in a twin-ferrule compression tube fitting assembly. When the compression nut is tightened with an open-end wrench, its internal rear drive shoulder advances the back ferrule forward. The tapered leading nose of the back ferrule forces the front ferrule radially inward into the tube wall and axially forward into the fitting body's 20-degree receiving cone to form the primary hermetic fluid seal. Simultaneously, the back ferrule rolls inward with a controlled hinging motion, mechanically biting and colleting the tubing outer diameter (O.D.) to provide an immovable grip that resists tube pull-out and dampens system vibrations without transmitting torque to the tubing.
Pioneer Industries manufactures Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules from high-density, extruded brass bar stock conforming strictly to ASTM B16 / B16M (Alloy C36000 Free-Cutting Brass), Indian Standard IS 319 Grade 1 / Type 1, and European Standard EN 12164 CW614N (CuZn39Pb3). For marine or aggressive saltwater exposure, we also manufacture them in Naval Brass (ASTM B21 C46400) or Dezincification Resistant (DZR) Brass (CW602N). Our brass alloy maintains a tightly controlled Alpha-Beta microstructural balance with proprietary annealing, giving the ferrule sufficient surface ductility for clean radial roll-down while maintaining high compressive core strength to prevent crushing under 5,000 PSI loads.
Pioneer Industries manufactures and stocks the complete dimensional spectrum for worldwide instrumentation tubing. The Metric Series includes Part Numbers MPBF-02 (2 mm Tube O.D.), MPBF-03 (3 mm), MPBF-04 (4 mm), MPBF-06 (6 mm), MPBF-08 (8 mm), MPBF-10 (10 mm), MPBF-12 (12 mm), MPBF-15 (15 mm), MPBF-16 (16 mm), MPBF-18 (18 mm), MPBF-20 (20 mm), MPBF-22 (22 mm), and MPBF-25 (25 mm). The Fractional/Imperial Series includes IPBF-01 (1/16″), IPBF-02 (1/8″), IPBF-03 (3/16″), IPBF-04 (1/4″), IPBF-05 (5/16″), IPBF-06 (3/8″), IPBF-08 (1/2″), IPBF-10 (5/8″), IPBF-12 (3/4″), IPBF-14 (7/8″), and IPBF-16 (1″). Custom sizes, wall thicknesses, and metric-fractional crossover sets are manufactured on demand.
During make-up of traditional compression fittings, friction between the nut and single ferrule often causes the tube to twist, distorting sensitive process lines and galling threads. In Pioneer's twin-ferrule design, the back ferrule acts as an internal axial thrust bearing. Its burnished rear contact face interfaces smoothly with the nut's internal taper. As the nut turns, it imparts pure forward linear thrust without transferring rotational torque to the back ferrule or tubing. Furthermore, the back ferrule's radial geometry distributes clamping stress symmetrically around the full 360-degree perimeter of the tube, eliminating localized pinching, stress concentrations, or cross-sectional bore reduction.
Pioneer Industries Brass Double Ferrule Assemblies are engineered to match or exceed the maximum allowable working pressure of fully annealed seamless copper (ASTM B75 / B88) and brass (ASTM B135) tubing. Pressure ratings range up to 5,000 PSI (345 Bar) for sizes 1/16″ to 1/4″ (2 mm to 6 mm), 3,200 to 3,800 PSI (220 to 260 Bar) for 5/16″ to 1/2″ (8 mm to 12 mm), and 2,000 to 2,800 PSI (140 to 195 Bar) for 5/8″ to 1″ (16 mm to 25 mm). All fittings are rated with a minimum 4:1 safety factor against burst pressure per ASME B31.3 Process Piping standards and exhibit vacuum tightness down to 1 × 10⁻⁹ mbar·l/s.
Yes. Pioneer Industries brass back ferrules are fully compatible with seamless copper tubing (ASTM B75, B88 Types K and L, and ACR refrigeration grades), red and yellow brass seamless tubing (ASTM B135), and thin-walled aluminum tubing. When connecting flexible or semi-rigid thermoplastic tubing—such as Nylon-11/12, Polyurethane (PU), Polyethylene (PE), or PTFE—a Pioneer precision brass tube insert (internal support sleeve) must be placed inside the tube end. The insert prevents the plastic tube wall from collapsing under the mechanical radial colleting action of the back ferrule, ensuring an airtight, blow-out-proof seal.
Proper mechanical swaging requires four simple steps: (1) Cut the tubing perfectly square (90°) using an approved rotary tube cutter and deburr both internal and external edges; (2) Insert the tube through the nut, back ferrule, and front ferrule until it bottoms firmly against the shoulder inside the fitting body; (3) Tighten the nut finger-tight until snug; (4) For tubing sizes 1/4″ to 1″ (6 mm to 25 mm), scribe a mark on the nut and body at 6 o'clock, hold the body with a backup wrench, and tighten the nut 1-1/4 turns to 9 o'clock; (5) For sub-miniature sizes 1/16″, 1/8″, and 3/16″ (2 mm to 4 mm), tighten only 3/4 turn from finger-tight. Use a Pioneer gap inspection gauge to verify correct pull-up before pressurizing.
Pioneer Industries Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules are precision-machined in strict conformance with international twin-ferrule design geometry, dimensional tolerances, and cam angle standards governed by ASME B31.3, ISO 19879, and BS 4368. As a result, their dimensions, tapers, and roll-down characteristics match standard two-ferrule systems used by major brands including Swagelok®, Parker A-LOK®, and Hoke Gyrolok®. While mechanically compatible for field maintenance replacements, Pioneer Industries recommends utilizing complete matched assemblies (Pioneer body, front ferrule, back ferrule, and nut) on critical instrumentation lines to ensure factory-certified hydrostatic warranty and trace certificate compliance.
When a double ferrule fitting is tightened, both the front and back ferrules undergo permanent, controlled plastic deformation (swaging) onto the tube wall. When disassembling the joint for maintenance, inspection, or valve replacement, the swaged ferrules remain permanently locked in position on the tubing end. The fitting assembly can be remade repeatedly without replacing the existing ferrules on that tube—simply reinsert the tube assembly into the fitting body and tighten the nut with a wrench until snug (approx. 1/12 to 1/6 of a turn past finger-tight). However, if you are running new tubing or cutting back the tube, new replacement front and back ferrules must be installed.
Manufactured at our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Mumbai, every production batch of Pioneer Industries Brass Double Ferrule Back Ferrules undergoes rigorous metallurgical, optical, and mechanical verification. Quality assurance measures include optical emission spectrometry (OES) for chemical composition, 100% profile projector and optical coordinate measuring machine (CMM) dimensional checks, hydrostatic proof testing to 1.5× working pressure, helium mass spectrometer leak testing (< 1 × 10⁻⁹ mbar·l/s), and cyclic vibration endurance testing. Each shipment is accompanied by authentic EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificates and RoHS/REACH compliance declarations.
